Laura & Matt: Destination Wedding at The Wigwam

April 26th, 2024

Destination weddings are so exciting, and Laura and Matt’s wedding at The Wigwam, in Litchfield Park, Arizona, was no exception. This wedding was a testament to family ties, and the couple's emphasis on family was the highlight of the day.

Laura and Matt came to me through the power of Pickleball and my Mom. She put on her best Kris Jenner "mom-ager" hat and connected her Pickleball pal (Matt's fabulous Mom) with me and ultimately with Laura & Matt. I always appreciate direct referrals, as they usually bring along great people, but this was definitely one for the books. Thanks Moms!!

As is the case on most Arizona wedding days, the sun shone brightly over the gorgeous Wigwam Resort. Tucked away in the suburbs of Phoenix, this venue is a fusion of history and charm, offering an idyllic backdrop for weddings. I arrived early to get grounded at the venue and spotted several wedding guests on the grounds. I could feel the excitement in the air as close friends & family eagerly anticipated the arrival of the couple.

When I arrived at Matt's villa he was sitting in the quiet, putting the finishing touches on his speech. He was mostly calm but I sensed vibrations of positive energy radiating off of him. He shared with me that he was eagerly anticipating seeing Laura and his excitement was infectious. Laura, on the other hand, welcomed me with a radiant, warm smile. She was cool as a cucumber putting on her gown with the help of her Mom & sister and absolutely glowing.

The ceremony was beautiful and heartwarming as Laura & Matt were surrounded by their nearest and dearest. The couple's decision to place family at the heart of their wedding made the day uniquely special. It was an honour to capture the love and joy that was so evident as the couple exchanged their vows.

The celebration continued through an intimate cocktail hour, and into the evening under the stars. We were lucky enough to skirt a very rare thunderstorm (this must have been luck as Phoenix rarely gets rain) and we enjoyed a delicious dinner.

As a photographer, I’ve seen many destination weddings, but Laura and Matt’s celebration touched my heart in a unique way. They had so many people join them in Arizona - it's a testiment to the love that their friends & family have for them. The emphasis on family bonds and the love shared between the couple made this wedding truly special. I feel privileged to have been a part of their beautiful day in Arizona, and I hope to cross paths with these two again someday soon. Thanks for having me Laura & Matt!!!

The following images were photographed on both digital and film! If you have questions about adding film to your wedding collection be sure to get in touch with me, I'd love to chat about why I love analog photography so much!
