Sherwood Inn Muskoka: A Lakeside Wedding on Film & Digital
Sherwood Inn is one of my favorite wedding venues in Muskoka. It’s tucked into the trees on Lake Joseph – quiet, unpretentious, and full of that classic Muskoka charm. I was thrilled to be back there in June to photograph Monet and James’s wedding. She’s Canadian, he’s Australian, and they met while traveling abroad – one of those “right place, right time” stories. Even now, they spend a lot of time apart for work, but watching them together, you’d never know it. Their guests flew in from all over the world to celebrate with them, and the whole day felt joyful and deeply connected. Please enjoy this gorgeous Muskoka day, a little on digital, a little on film!
Thoughtful Spaces for First Looks and Morning Moments
One thing I really appreciate about Sherwood Inn is how everything’s within walking distance. Most couples get ready in the cabins – quaint, cozy spaces that make it easy to hang with friends without feeling cramped. For Monet and James, James got ready with his friends in Pinewood, while Monet prepped in the boathouse, which has this incredible view of Lake Joseph and easy dock access. They met for their first look in a quiet, forested spot between the two – secluded, peaceful, and perfect for a moment alone. Ceremonies are typically held lakeside, either at the gazebo or on the open lawn.
Muskoka Outdoor Ceremony with Lake Joseph Views
Monet and James held their ceremony on the lawn overlooking Lake Joseph. It’s one of Sherwood Inn’s best features—open air, big sky, and just enough tree coverage to soften the light. Guests were seated facing the water, with the lake and dock in the background. There’s a beautiful wood staircase that leads down from the inn to the lawn – it’s dramatic in the best way and makes for a stunning entrance. The florals, designed by local florist Hygge Bloom, were colourful and playful – totally aligned with the couple’s energy. Visually gorgeous, emotionally grounded. The kind of space that lets you be fully there.
Relaxed Cocktail Hour and Cozy Muskoka Reception
After the ceremony, guests flowed into the cocktail hour space – relaxed and open, with lawn games scattered around and an outdoor bar that kept the vibe easygoing. People wandered, mingled, and grazed on some truly delicious canapés. That kind of freedom of movement is one of the things I love about Sherwood Inn – it feels like a cottage weekend, not an event. When it was time for dinner, everyone headed into the main dining room: cozy, wood-accented, and just intimate enough to feel like a big family dinner. Later, the party picked up in the lounge next door – classic Muskoka cottage wood paneling, a vibey fireplace mantle, and a dance floor that stayed full all night.
Sherwood Inn Wedding Muskoka – FAQ
How many guests can Sherwood Inn accommodate? The lawn ceremony space fits around 100 seated guests comfortably. The indoor dining room works best for 80–100 guests for a seated dinner. There’s also an option to set up a tented reception on the lawn for larger guest counts or those wanting an open-air dinner.
Is there a backup plan for rain? Yes. The inn offers a covered lakeside area and indoor options. The dining room can be flipped if needed—staff is efficient and used to weather pivots.
Can we host a rehearsal dinner on-site? Absolutely. The private dining room or fireside lounge both work well for welcome dinners or casual drinks the night before.
Are accommodations included? Guests can book their own rooms at the inn. There’s a mix of main lodge and cabin-style options. It’s worth booking early—summer weekends fill fast.
Can we bring in outside vendors? The inn has preferred vendors but is open to outside florists, planners, etc. Worth confirming in advance to keep communication smooth.
What time does the party have to end? Most events wrap by 1 a.m. but check with the inn directly—some weekends may vary based on guest occupancy.
Can you accommodate cultural or non-traditional ceremonies? Yes. Sherwood is flexible and has hosted a wide range of ceremonies. As always, communication with the planning team makes a big difference.
Photography has always been more than just images to me—it’s about holding onto the moments that matter most. The raw, unfiltered bits of life that tell our stories.
My approach is candid, vibey, and unposed whenever possible (don’t worry, I still gently guide your portraits when needed). I believe every emotion—joy, laughter, quiet tears, the big and small—is deeply beautiful and deserves to be remembered.
As your wedding photographer, my job isn’t to stage your love—it’s to witness it, document it, and let it shine in its most authentic form. Because at the end of the day, these aren’t just wedding photos. They’re the moments that will bring you back to exactly how it all felt.
