Life moves so fast, sometimes I feel like I can’t even keep up! Not long ago (summer 2017 in fact) Tina & Stirling tied the knot at their family cottage near North Bay and we were lucky enough to document those moments. They are so much fun, so sweet, so kind… so adorable, I knew that if the time came, they’d make incredible parents. Imagine my excitement when Tina informed me they were expecting a little one and they’d be booking a session to welcome her once things settled down. This would mark my 3rd time working with this sweet little crew and every time I do I swear my heart grows a little bigger. As a Toronto Family Photographer there’s nothing better than watching your clients (friends) grow into their new roles as parents and being invited into their home to document these quiet moments.
Our time together was relaxed and fun. Stirling made breakfast & coffee while Tina nursed Sophia (they have this routine down to an art) and their handsome pup Brock chilled on the couch. Nothing about this session was forced or contrived, these two went with the flow, let Sophia be the hand chewing ball of cute curiosity she is, and rolled with it. This is how it’s done people! This is how we get this type of image, by making room for them.
Having small kids of my own has absolutely changed the way I approach family photography. I used to feel so much pressure to execute the perfectly posed portrait and honestly it never felt like “me” delivering images in that way. Tina & Stirling wanted to embrace their time with little Sophia and have it captured in a way that was relaxed, true to life, and depicted who they are as a family NOW. I wish that this style of photography was more common when my kids were babies, I feel like I (as mom & the main camera holder) am missing in so many moments & memories. I can’t encourage people enough to have this sort of documentary family session while your babies are small. They change in the blink of an eye and I promise, you’ll forget so much of what makes this time special.
I want to thank Tina & Stirling for sticking with me for the past couple years as their relationship & family has grown. I’m honoured that they’ve chosen to invest their hard-earned money into photography and have invited me into so many precious times. I hate to sound so millennial but I’m #blessed ;).
