If you’re about to cruise through these photos I just need to prepare you… you’re about to see some majorly cute little kids. Ok, now that you’ve been warned let me tell you a little bit about this session! A couple of years ago I took a big step back from family photography. I was feeling burnt out, frustrated, and pretty unfulfilled with the type of images I was creating for families. I have amazing clients who have stayed in touch with me throughout the years and kept asking for family session but I just couldn’t do it. I decided to take some time away from family photography to figure out what it was that was lacking for me.
During my “family photography sabbatical” I took some workshops and started digging into documentary photography as an avenue for family sessions. Let’s just say I fell in love. Not posing, playing, enjoying each other, making memories… that inspired me, big time. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom who’s kids are growing up too fast or maybe I’m just getting sentimental in my old age, but this style really speaks to me. The level of authenticity that comes with letting kids be themselves and get dirty just makes my heart soar. So here we are, years into my journey as a photographer yet somehow starting anew.
I put the word out on social media asking to tag along with some families while they picked their pumpkins this fall and the response was overwhelming. Autumn chaos hit our house (sick kids, wild weather, etc) and I only ended up photographing one of my model “families”… but it’s a good one. We all know that friends are the family we choose and I couldn’t have been happier to photograph two friends and their respective little girls on a day trip out to Knox Pumpkin Farm here in Oshawa! I’ve known Natalie & Lucy for years and had the pleasure to photograph Natalie’s wedding, her baby bump session, and some boudoir photos for Lucy. SUCH an honour to photograph them at play with their hilarious, wild, wonderful little girls on a friend date out to the farm. This session was about 90% undirected with a couple suggestions thrown in here and there. I had soooo much fun and I’m thrilled to be offering this type of session to my clients again.
Thank you ladies for the amazing time, you are the best! xoxo
