One of the silver linings of losing 80% of your wedding photographer income (yep… you read that correctly) is that your schedule is suddenly wide open and you’re forced to get busy hustling. Don’t feel bad for me, I was able to make good use of my downtime and book more work as an Oshawa Family Photographer than I have in ages. This was the first year in almost a decade that I was motivated to offer session gift certificates and without that little push I would have never been able to spend some very precious time with Jessica, Bryan, and their sweet little family.
Talk about a breath of fresh air! From the moment I walked in the door, the energy in this home just felt GOOD. A little girl who was thrilled to show me her precious toys, a baby who just snuggled and slept the day away, and two parents who were completely relaxed and allowed the session to just flow. J&B, you guys are a dream.
This photo session was a gift from a loved one to help this little Oshawa family welcome their new baby boy. Leo joined the family smack dab in the middle of the second COVID wave. Photographing a family indoors during a pandemic certainly has its challenges. I, of course, wore PPE the entire time and stayed farther back than usual while relying on different lenses to do a lot of the more close-up work for me. Both Jessica & Bryan are in health care so it set my mind at ease knowing that they were taking every precaution to remain isolated to protect themselves & people like me. I am so thankful that we were able to squeeze this little session in before things got worse in Durham Region.
One thing is for certain, the value of photography will only continue to increase with time. Never before have I cherished old photos of loved ones more than I do now. This pandemic is awful but the lessons it’s teaching me about love and connection will not only resonate in my personal life but also in how I approach each session. Life, love, and family are so precious – be sure to celebrate what you have and take time to take photos of the ones you love most.
